Frequently asked questions
-
What makes Guatemalan coffee different?
Guatemala's volcanic soil and high-altitude growing regions (1,500-2,000 metres) create beans with distinctive depth and complexity. The combination of rich minerals and cool mountain temperatures produces coffee with pronounced chocolate notes and balanced acidity—characteristics that are hard to replicate elsewhere.
-
Is this suitable for espresso?
Yes. Despite being a single origin, the full body and low-medium acidity make it an excellent espresso. You'll get a rich, syrupy shot with dark chocolate notes and good crema.
-
Why is this a limited edition?
We source specific harvests from Guatemalan producers. Once we've roasted through the current lot, we wait for the next harvest that meets our standards. This means occasional gaps in availability, but consistent quality when it's in stock.
-
How does this compare to your Colombian beans?
Both are 100% Arabica single origins with nutty, chocolate notes. The Colombian is slightly brighter with more caramel sweetness. The Guatemala is darker and more cocoa-forward with a richer body. If you like one, you'll likely enjoy the other.
-
What grind should I use?
For espresso: fine (like table salt). For cafetière/French press: coarse. For filter and pour over: medium. For moka pot and AeroPress: medium-fine.
-
How should I store these beans?
Keep them in an airtight container at room temperature, away from light. Don't refrigerate or freeze. Stored properly, they'll stay fresh for 2-3 months after opening.
-
How many cups will I get from 1kg?
Using 15g per double espresso: approximately 66 shots. For filter coffee at 18g per cup: around 55 cups. For cafetière at 20g: roughly 50 servings.
-
Does this work with hard or soft water?
Guatemala's balanced profile works reasonably well with most water types. In very hard water areas (London, Southeast), you may notice slightly muted acidity. In soft water areas (Scotland, Wales), the chocolate notes will be more pronounced. Either way, it's a forgiving bean.
